For the 2018 Royal Roads Design Thinking Competition, we have partnered with the City of Victoria to identify an important social challenge. The details of the challenge will be announced by the Mayor of Victoria on February 19th, 2018.
This challenge will involve issues currently being faced in Victoria and in municipalities worldwide. Judging panels will be made up of Victoria City staff, design thinking experts, and other stakeholders.
The goal of the Royal Roads Design Challenge is to be forward-looking, and asks students to work with community leaders to address a challenge of societal concern. This is unlike standard business cases, which represent the past challenges of organizations.
Format of the Challenge
On February 19th, 2018, the Mayor of Victoria, BC will present a challenge being faced in Victoria and in municipalities worldwide.
There will be two rounds to this challenge:
- In the first round, which you will begin online, you will explore the challenge in your own city, and present solutions that would work in your context.
- The second round’s challenge, which will build on the first, will be presented to you when you are in Victoria, BC.
For both rounds, your client will be the Mayor and other senior City staff, who are seeking real-world solutions. The judging panels will be made up of Victoria City staff, design thinking experts, and other stakeholders.
