2018 Challenge

The 2018 Royal Roads Design Thinking Challenge, hosted in partnership with Downtown Victoria Business Association, asked students to use design thinking and behavioural insights to solve the problem of too many cars on the road. At each stage of the challenge, the teams refined their ideas and gathered insight from the people using the transportation system, experts and each other. Seven institutions across Canada participated in the challenge. The first place went to the team from HEC Montréal for its idea to integrate on-bus screen displays and intelligent bus shelters into the public transit system to reduce uncertainty for seniors and thereby encourage more transit trips.
